So much has happened these past few weeks, sorry I’ve not been better about posting it here. On August 1st, we were finally able to sign a lease and get moved into our new home, the 3rd floor of the Irvington Lodge. It’s an amazing old building, beautiful design, woodwork, colors, etc. It is right in the middle of Irvington, at about Washington and Ritter, what a great location! On August 12th Mosaic had a ‘Preview Service’ at the lodge. Basically it was a sneak-peak/practice run. It went really well, we’d been worried about the acoustics of our space in the lodge, but it sounded pretty good. more »

Wow, what a night.I was very excited that myself and 4 other couples were going to be able to go into the building we hope Mosaic will meet at to check out the space and pray tonight. The realtor set us up with a key and gave us the alarm code. So of course you already know what that means; as soon as we opened the door, the alarm began to go off. I quickly entered the code the realtor had given us, no luck. I entered it again, and again, and again; thinking perhaps this was one of those new alarms you have to put the code into 11 times, but still no luck. The rest of the group went ahead upstairs, and the alarm box began to scroll messages to me: Intrusion Main Entrance; Motion Alarm Stairwell; Motion Alarm 2nd Floor; Motion Alarm 3rd Floor. Now, like any other mild mannered, law-abiding, wanna be pastor I found myself thinking, ‘this can’t be good.’ more »

So as most of you know, we definitely hit a rough patch for a while there. I was beginning to wonder if we had chosen the wrong yard, ours seemed to be full of weeds. But, things seem to be turning around. Granted, there still some pesky dandelions and such that we can’t seem to get rid of yet, but for the most part, the yard’s greening up pretty nicely. more »

I’ll bet it won’t be much different than this past week for me. The small fries are things like being without internet, email, yes, even a computer since leaving Post Road back on May 20th until just last night. But compared to all of the junk that’s hit my wife and I over the past week, that’s nothing. more »

  • Last Day

Alright, for starters, I thought I was back, but you know five weeks disappears pretty quickly. Anyhow, sorry.

But…Today is it, this is my last day in the office at PRCC. As of Monday, I am officially ‘full time’ for Mosaic. It’s a really wierd day for me. I am excited to be moving on to this new thing. I am scared out of my mind to be leaving the comfort of a good church and steady paychecks. I am looking forward to the new relationships we will build with families in Irvington. I am saddened by the thought of leaving so many friendships here. I think i could best be described today as confused, laughing one minute, and crying the next. Maybe that’s just how last days go.

Okay, so it’s me, I’m the lazy bum; i admit it. Sorry it’s been like 2 years, 3 days and 14 minutes since i’ve done anything on the website–i was sleeping and eating twinkies. Actually, i haven’t had twinkies in a really long time, i think they kind of scare me now. more »

  • Attendance Board

I had a conversation a while back with my in-laws about the church attendance board. You’ve probably seen one before, though you may not have realized what it was. It’s that old wooden sign with changeable numbers, usually up front by the stage in most churches. Its beauty is found in its versatility. It’s a simple piece of wood hung on a wall with slots that hold little cards with little letters and numbers on them. As you can imagine, the possibilities are endless; but most are pretty much the same.

So we thought that Mosaic had found the perfect building in Irvington. It’s this pretty cool looking office/warehouse space that we fell in love with before we even knew any details about it (that’s how cool we think it looks). A couple of us were able to meet the owner and walk through the space a couple of times, and we were certain that this was it. Of course there was still the small matter of money (of which we have little to none) but hey, why should that stop us, right? more »

  • Here’s your sign

Okay, so I told you about my daughter being born a few weeks ago, here’s what I didn’t tell you. On Wednesday, December 13th, I had the entire day set aside for prayer and study. I decided to spend the entire day in Irvington, stopping to study and pray at different places all around the area.

My day began in an empty parking lot with a heart full of worries. I needed this day, my wife was making me take it, because I was making myself sick with worry about Mosaic, planning, funding, location, people, and on and on. So there I was, sitting in my truck, ready for God to meet me, hoping He would meet me to let me know that everything was going to be okay; and all I could think about were worries. So I decided as an act of prayer to write down all of my worries about Mosaic. After about 10 minutes, I had 3and ½ pages full! more »

  • Amazing

God blessed Lisa and I with our second daughter, Adia Saree, on December 13th at 11:36 pm. It was amazing, my wife is amazing! I have been at home with the girls for about 3 weeks now, pretty much avoiding everything else that has to do with anything else. It’s been nice. On Christmas day Lisa and I were talking about how Christmas ’05 we were still hoping and praying that God would bless us with a child, and in less than a year, we have two wonderful daughters. God is amazing!

After nearly 5 years of trying to have a child, praying earnestly and sometimes hurting deeply; it’s amazing to get up in the morning and see my two girls. In case you haven’t caught on yet, this is pretty amazing!

mosaic podcast

misson

Mosaic exists to encourage people to begin their faith journey, to create a community where all can belong, to introduce people to a real Jesus in whom they can believe, and to encourage people to grow in their relationships with Christ and each other, so that together, we can all be whole.

core passion

Mosaic’s Core Passion is Worship. We worship by teaching the life changing truth of Scripture through culturally relevant environments and methods. We worship by striving for excellence in all we do, believing that excellence honors God and inspires people. We worship by creating authentic community through our transparency and loving relationships. We worship by sharing the Good News that God desires to know and be known by all people.

vision

To become a faith community in Irvington that daily lives out the gospel of Jesus Christ in all of its beauty through creative teaching, embracing and emphasizing the arts, equipping believers for ministry, acts of service, and transformational discipleship.

beliefs

We believe that the Bible (both the Old and New Testament) is the Word of God, and is therefore completely true as it was originally revealed by God to its human authors. 2 Timothy 3:15-16, 2 Peter 1:20-21

We believe in God the Father, the maker of heaven and earth. We believe that God is eternal, He always was and always will be. We believe that God is not far from us, and desires to know and be known by all people. Genesis 1, Isaiah 40:28, James 4:8

We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. We believe that Jesus was sent to earth in the form of a man to redeem the world. He is the Messiah, or Savior, who died on a cross to pay the penalty for our sin, He arose from the dead three days later and ascended to heaven. Matthew 16:16, Philippians 2:6-8; John 3:16, 1Corinthians 15:3-4, Acts 1:1-2

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the indwelling presence of God in our lives. He empowers and emboldens us for works of service; and He enables us to understand and live out God’s will in our lives. 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 12:7, John 16:13-15, Acts 1:8

We believe that all people are made in the image of God our creator, and therefore have inherent worth and value. We have been separated from God by our own selfish and disobedient attitudes and choices, known as sin. God desires to be reunited with us, and has made this possible through His Son Jesus. Genesis 1:27, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:9-12

We believe that Salvation is a gift from God that cannot be earned, but is given freely to those who accept His Son, Jesus. We believe that upon accepting Jesus one should repent of their sins (turn away from their selfish and disobedient attitudes and choices), confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior (tell others what they believe about Jesus), be baptized in His name (immersed in water as a symbolic death and resurrection), and then live daily for Him (trading our desires and choices for His desires and choices). John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9, Acts 2:38, Romans 10:9-10, Romans 14:7-8
