  • Empty?

We believe you don’t have to be. Easter is just around the corner. For those of us that claim to be followers of Jesus it’s kind of a big deal. For starters, if Jesus isn’t risen and alive….then who are we following? And if He is risen and alive than what does that mean for me nearly 2000 years later? Is it relevant? Is it applicable? Does it really matter in any tangible way? This year we are excited to look back through some of the Scriptural narratives of Jesus’ life and explore together if they should matter to us today or not. We are excited because we belive that the tomb is empty so our lives don’t have to be. We are excited because we believe an encounter with the risen Lord Jesus is an encounter with life, love, and hope.

Some of you reading this post may have received a flyer about our Good Friday and Easter Gatherings (along with a spectacular coupon for Lazy Daze). We realize that if you’ve not joined us for a gathering before it might be kind of intimidating. So please allow me to take this opportunity to try and put your mind at ease. If you choose to visit with us, we promise not to single you out and make a spectacle of you. We promise not to pressure you to sign anything or give us your phone number, address, email, SSN, or bank account numbers. We promise not to point and whisper about ‘who is that, I”ve never seen them before?”. We promise not to care how you’re dressed or what color your hair is (neon or gray…).

We do promise to be kind, gracious, and welcoming. We promise to provide some great food and coffee for free on Easter morning (as we do every Sunday). We promise to do our very best to create an atmosphere where you will feel welcome and comfortable. We promise to share some great music led by an amazing band. We promise to share some great truths from Scripture as led by an amazing God.

For the practical stuff….Our Good Friday gathering is a rather quiet and reflective time together with some acoustic music and a focus on the Scriptural narratives of the arrest, trial, crucifixion, and death of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and ends with partaking in communion together. We encourage children to participate with their families. This gathering is open ended as we encourage you to take your time and leave whenever you’re ready. The music and teaching portion usually lasts about 30-40 minutes.

On Easter Sunday we will celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior together. Children are always welcome to stay with their families. For those interested we provide a staffed nursery, toddler, and preschool classes. After the musical portion of our worship gathering we dismiss our elementary students for their own class as well. Our Easter gathering will likely last about 75 minutes.

Parking is available behind the shops on the South side of Washington Street. Streetside parking along Johnson Avenue, and the parking lot at IPS school 57 (just walk across Ritter past the Irving and you’re here!).

We hope to see you soon as we explore these encounters with life, love, and hope together.

mosaic podcast

misson

Mosaic exists to encourage people to begin their faith journey, to create a community where all can belong, to introduce people to a real Jesus in whom they can believe, and to encourage people to grow in their relationships with Christ and each other, so that together, we can all be whole.

core passion

Mosaic’s Core Passion is Worship. We worship by teaching the life changing truth of Scripture through culturally relevant environments and methods. We worship by striving for excellence in all we do, believing that excellence honors God and inspires people. We worship by creating authentic community through our transparency and loving relationships. We worship by sharing the Good News that God desires to know and be known by all people.

vision

To become a faith community in Irvington that daily lives out the gospel of Jesus Christ in all of its beauty through creative teaching, embracing and emphasizing the arts, equipping believers for ministry, acts of service, and transformational discipleship.

beliefs

We believe that the Bible (both the Old and New Testament) is the Word of God, and is therefore completely true as it was originally revealed by God to its human authors. 2 Timothy 3:15-16, 2 Peter 1:20-21

We believe in God the Father, the maker of heaven and earth. We believe that God is eternal, He always was and always will be. We believe that God is not far from us, and desires to know and be known by all people. Genesis 1, Isaiah 40:28, James 4:8

We believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of the living God. We believe that Jesus was sent to earth in the form of a man to redeem the world. He is the Messiah, or Savior, who died on a cross to pay the penalty for our sin, He arose from the dead three days later and ascended to heaven. Matthew 16:16, Philippians 2:6-8; John 3:16, 1Corinthians 15:3-4, Acts 1:1-2

We believe that the Holy Spirit is the indwelling presence of God in our lives. He empowers and emboldens us for works of service; and He enables us to understand and live out God’s will in our lives. 1 Corinthians 3:16, 1 Corinthians 12:7, John 16:13-15, Acts 1:8

We believe that all people are made in the image of God our creator, and therefore have inherent worth and value. We have been separated from God by our own selfish and disobedient attitudes and choices, known as sin. God desires to be reunited with us, and has made this possible through His Son Jesus. Genesis 1:27, Romans 3:23, Romans 5:9-12

We believe that Salvation is a gift from God that cannot be earned, but is given freely to those who accept His Son, Jesus. We believe that upon accepting Jesus one should repent of their sins (turn away from their selfish and disobedient attitudes and choices), confess Jesus as their Lord and Savior (tell others what they believe about Jesus), be baptized in His name (immersed in water as a symbolic death and resurrection), and then live daily for Him (trading our desires and choices for His desires and choices). John 3:16, Ephesians 2:8-9, Acts 2:38, Romans 10:9-10, Romans 14:7-8
